Cross Fit training center opening on Alvarado (left); Montana L.A. spray paint store closing on Sunset
Echo Park will see the opening of a Cross Fit training center at the base of a loft-style apartment building on Alvarado Street and the closing of Montana LA, the Sunset Boulevard “paint boutique” that catered to street artists with high-end spray paint and other supplies. The Montana L.A. store with the jet-black facade, which hosted several art openings since it opened in middle of 2010, will close after today, according to employees and a statement posted on the store website. The closure is part of a plan by the owners of Montana L.A. and 33third, a Westside spray paint and art supply store, to consolidate operations and open in a larger location.
Meanwhile, Alvarado Street near Sunset Boulevard, a Cross Fit training center plans to open in the ground floor of the four-story Echo Lofts building, which was completed in 2010 Officials at Cross Fit could not be reached for comment but a leasing agent said a fitness training center would occupy the entire, approximately 4,100-square foot ground floor. Last year, there was talk that a new vegetarian restaurant would open up in the building but apparently those plans never materialized.
If the cross fit is anything like the one near my current workplace, the well-to-do residents of that building are in for a pleasant wake-up of 300 pound tires being flipped over, and barbells being dead dropped.
that’d be a problem if that building had residents…
last i checked slobby , the building looked full to me. hard to miss with all the huge windows.
I love this! i’ve been dying to get in on this! any idea of completion dates?
Glad to see the spray paint shop close.

LOL, Indeed @!
What happened to the 60s looking thrift store next door?
That is wonderful, since Croker Bank moved where house La Guadalupana, many residents of the area, asked for a fitness center. This is a great idea, will promote the good health of the resident. Great
damn, wish we had a cool gym that wasn’t purely cross-fit. still, good news.
never understood the gourmet spray can shop. buh bye.
Cant say I`ll miss the Post Punk Psuedo Gothic Cafe; But will have pass
on the ” How Ironic ” Gentrification Sarcasm. This Time.
Damn that sucks that Montana closed. It was nice to be able to get good colors for quick paint projects like painting the patio furniture. Can’t say that I’m surprised though, there was never anyone in there whenever I went.
Creating a business that sells paint to “street artist” is as viable a plan as a business selling sign supplies to homeless people.
I’m one of the owners of the new Crossfit coming thats coming to Sunset and Alvarado. Would like to talk to you about it. Please email.. Thanks..

Hi Ty,
