Mayor gets caught flat-footed by old man in a wheel chair: Mayor Villaraigosa’s appearance this morning at an Echo Park senior apartment complex got off to a rough start when he had a run in with an elderly man riding a motorized wheel chair. Villaraigosa tried to hop out of the way of the senior citizen -apparently eager to meet the mayor – riding a cherry -red Jazzy Select (top speed 4 mph) wheel chair. If the mayor was upset by the incident, he did not show it – at least not with an old man in front of a TV camera. “You ran over me,” Villaraigosa told the man after the news event, “but it was OK.”
